The design process takes place over 4 main stages: Initial Consultation, Site Survey, Concept Drawing and Final Presentation. But what can you expect at each stage?
This is where we visit you at your property to discuss your requirements. At this free*, no obligation, initial discussion we will take through some of our work and get a feel for what you are looking for, discuss our fees and take some basic dimensions. Following this meeting, we will provide you with a written quotation together with our understanding of what you have told us. This client brief will form the basis of rest of the design process.
If you are happy with the proposal and that you would like to commission us to continue we would need you to sign a garden design agreement and send it to us with a deposit. On receipt of this agreement, we will then visit you again for a detailed brief and to conduct a full site survey.
The site survey will take approximately 1½ - 2 hrs depending on the size of the plot and consists of a detailed discussion about your garden, how you use it and how you would like to use it and also understand your budget as this has a direct bearing on what we design. We also make detailed measurements of the area and conditions affecting your property. We have found that mood boards help us to understand what kind of things you like and dislike – plants, garden styles, features etc. and we will bring some with us to discuss with you. If you have seen something that you would want in your garden, and can provide a magazine article or a photoimage that will be useful too.
For the next stage we will draw a scaled plan in pencil of our proposals. Our wish is for your complete satisfaction and to this end we like our clients to be fully involved in the plan. So at this stage we would want to come back to ensure that our approach is on the right track and / or to make amendments before finishing the plan.
Our final presentation will be a fully annotated design to the standard agreed whether simply a black and white plan or with a full colour rendered finish.
We usually also provide planting ideas and suggestions based upon your garden’s particular conditions.
Why plan a garden? You should think of a garden plan with a long term perspective. By having a plan you can choose to work towards the final result a step at a time as budget allows or you can implement it in full in one go. If the latter is desired, Beach Hut Garden Services can then take the full plan and create Construction Plans and Planting Plans.
Beach Hut Garden Services is perfectly suited to create your dream garden from start to finish (see the landscaping services and also the projects / gallery section). However, you may know someone who you want to use to build the garden and this is where, for an additional fee, we could produce Construction Plans which are basic outlines but with detailed dimensions and showing how specific features of the garden should be built. You will thus be able to pass this type of plan onto a landscaper or builder for them to construct the garden.
Likewise, you may know someone or feel confident enough to plant up the garden yourself. This is where, for an additional fee, we would be happy to prepare a planting plan which would show you the location and quantity of plants that you would need for each area. We can also suggest possible suppliers for plants and materials. As part of the service, we would supply you with a manual with care instructions for those plants selected.
*Free quotes available within 30 miles of Woolacombe, after which we would make a small charge to cover costs.
